Puerto Princesa City — In a bid to raise health and safety awareness, Petrosphere Incorporated and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in collaboration with the Western Philippines University conducted its first Occupational Health and Safety Forum, which was attended by more than 120 participants coming from different sectors in Palawan last May 12.
Engr. German D. Eser Jr, Chief of the Training and Public Information Division of OSHC, discussed the “Occupational Safety and Health in the Philippines” including the functions of the Center in terms of providing public education on health and safety.
On the other hand, Engr. Harthwell C. Capistrano, president and CEO of Petrosphere Incorporated talked about “Introduction to Behavior Based Safety” and challenged the participants to commit themselves to become safety advocates.
The activity was spearheaded by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of the WPU and was held in its Audio Visual Hall at the Puerto Princesa Campus.
Prof. Cecilia F. Malolos, former Director of the Provincial Human Rights Center, gave details on the the background of the Forum and discussed the partnership of the Western Philippines University thru the Human Rights Center and the Petrosphere Incorporated in the pursuit of health and safety education and advocacy.
Key officials from the Western Philippines University attended the Forum since wellness of all its employees is very much considered by the management as a prime contributor to its productivity.
Several members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Palawan State University Student Council (SPE-PSU-SC) headed by its Chairman Patric Jayrelmarc Guzman also participated in the forum, including Dr. Ramon M. Docto, the Vice-President of External Campuses of the Palawan State University.
Other attendees come from Ospital ng Palawan, MMG Cooperative Hospital, Aborlan and NARRA LGUs, including Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Palawan, NCCC, William Tan Enterprise, and other private institutions.
Petrosphere Incorporated is currently undergoing the final accreditation and approval to be an accredited Safety Training Organization by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) – the first health and safety company based in Palawan and in MIMAROPA. Once approved, it will offer DOLE-approved training courses on Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH), Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH), Loss Control Management (LCM), and others.
Currently, it offers Health and Safety Training on Oil and Gas, Construction, including Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, PALS, IELTS review, and many others.#
