Control Measures
For extreme cold:
• Physical Clothing
• Good Physical Condition
• Buddy System
For extreme heat:
• Protective Clothing
• Air Movement
• Heat Shields or Barriers
• Replacement of Body Fluids Lost Due to Heat
5. Illumination
Hazards to Illumination
• Burned out bulbs in seldom-used halls, stairways and storage rooms.
• Fluorescent light fixtures with one or more fluorescent tubes burned out or not
functioning properly (blinking or flickering).
• Light fixtures covered with dirt, grease or oil, significantly reducing the amount
of light available.
• Little or no provision for emergency lighting.
• Unlighted or dimly-lighted exits.
• Temporary (and usually inadequate) lighting that has
become permanent through oversight.
• Poorly-placed lighting sources that cast shadows in the employee’s work areas.
Lack of Adequate Lighting Causes
• accident
• eye strain or fatigue and headache
• contributes to low production levels
• low quality performance
• lower morale
