commonly encountered vapor hazards are those associated with solvents such
as:
• Paint Thinners
• Alcohol
• Trichloroethane
• Lighter Fluid
• Carbon Tetrachloride
• Gasoline
Measurements Used to Express Concentrations or How Much of Contaminants in the Air:
• P.P.M. (parts per million) – the parts of vapor or gas per million parts of contaminated air in a
given volume
• Mg/m (milligrams per cubic meter) – the milligrams of a contaminant substances per cubic
3
meter of air
• Mppcf (million particles per cubic foot) – the millions of particles of a contaminant per cubic
foot of air
Air Quality Measuring Devices
Solvents – these are widely used in most industries. These causes often serious health hazards when
they enter the body, either by inhalation or by absorption through skin. They are significant, fire, and
explosion hazards.
