                       • Identification of hazard-prone areas
                       • Mainstreaming DRRM into development plans.

The main goal of Disaster Prevention & Mitigation is to avoid hazards and mitigate their potential
impacts by reducing vulnerabilities and exposure and enhancing capacities of communities. The objective
of the Disaster Prevention & Mitigation is to reduce the vulnerability and exposure of communities to all
hazards and enhance the capacities of communities to reduce their own risks and cope with the impacts
               of all hazards.

               Disaster Preparedness

It is the knowledge and capacities developed by governments, professional response and
recovery organizations, communities and individuals to effectively anticipate, respond to, and recover
from the impacts of likely, imminent or current hazard events or conditions. It provides key strategic
               actions that give importance to:
                       • Community awareness and understanding

                       • Contingency planning
                       • Conduct of local drills
                       • Development of a National Disaster Response Plan

The main goal of Disaster Preparedness is to establish and strengthen capacities of communities
to anticipate, cope and recover from negative impacts of emergency occurrences and disasters. The
objectives of Disaster Preparedness are as follows:
                       • Increase the level of awareness of the community to the threats and impacts of all hazards,
                          risks and vulnerabilities
                       • Equip the community with the necessary skills to cope with the negative impacts of a disaster

                       • Increase the capacity of the institutions
                       • Develop and implement comprehensive national and local disaster preparedness policies,
                          plans and systems
                       • Strengthen partnership among all key players and stakeholders.

               Disaster Response

This mainly focuses on immediate and short-term needs and is sometimes called “disaster relief.”
