               Kinds of Stressors

                   1. Biological Stressor
It is an organism that finds itself, by accident or by design, in a habitat to which it does

not belong. These are the conditions that impacts the body’s ability to take part in day-to-day
activities. These could include the following:
                          • Infections
                          • Physical trauma

                          • Disease
                          • Malnutrition
                          • Fatigue
                          • Illnesses
                          • Injury

                   2. Psychological Stressor
This kind of stressor occurs when a person is under
pressure or having a difficulty coping with a situation or

stimulus. Psychological stress acts as the person’s emotional
response to stressful events. The anxiety and incompetence
that a person felt as a result of failing to do the assigned task is
an example of psychological stress. The following are the
                       examples of psychological stressor:
                          • Threats of physical harm
                          • Attacks on self-esteem

                          • Guilt inducing attacks on one’s belief system

                                                     3. Social Stressor

This stressor is defined as behaviors and situations,
social in nature, that are related to physical and psychological
strain. Social stressor deplete a person’s coping resource
(ability to ‘deal’ with strain). Social stressor collectively
represent all those factors which can be present in the society
and have positive or negative impact on stress levels. The

                                                     • Co-worker conflict
                                                     • Negative group environments
