Module 17: Off-the-Job Safety
What is Off-the-Job Safety?
Off-the-Job Safety is the logical extension
of the Occupational Safety and Health Prevention. It
is considered by some safety professionals to be
the frontier when it comes to affecting change in a
worker’s safety beliefs and behaviors. On the face
of it, off-the-job safety simply is getting employees
to expand their on-the-job safety mindedness
everywhere else.
Accident Prevention Aim in Off-the-Job Safety
• Good business sense (saving)
• Fulfills an organization’s moral and legal responsibilities.
• Reduction of costly employee absence due to:
• accidents
• injuries or death
• commitment to employee’s well-being
Objective of the Off-the-Job Safety
To prevent accidents, injuries, and deaths of employees and
their families.
Benefits of an Off-the-Job Safety Program
• Fewer off-the-job accidents, injuries, and deaths;
• Lower employee absences;
• Reduced operating costs’
• Safety awareness at the home is brought back to the employee’s work place;
