                                          Module 17: Off-the-Job Safety

               What is Off-the-Job Safety?

                       Off-the-Job Safety is the logical extension
               of the Occupational Safety and Health Prevention. It
               is considered by some safety professionals to be
               the frontier when it comes to affecting change in a
               worker’s safety beliefs and behaviors. On the face

               of it, off-the-job safety simply is getting employees
               to expand their on-the-job safety mindedness
               everywhere else.

               Accident Prevention Aim in Off-the-Job Safety

                   •   Good business sense (saving)
                   • Fulfills an organization’s moral and legal responsibilities.
                   • Reduction of costly employee absence due to:
                          •   accidents
                          •   injuries or death

                          •   commitment to employee’s well-being

               Objective of the Off-the-Job Safety
                       To prevent accidents, injuries, and deaths of employees and

               their families.

                   •   Lower employee absences;
                   •   Reduced operating costs’
                   •   Safety awareness at the home is brought back to the employee’s work place;
                   •   Improved work efficiency and performance;

                   •   Enhanced employee and supervisor communications and relationships;
                   • Employee family participation in community safety actions.

                 “Management Participation and Involvement Must be Communicated to the Employees Vocally,
                                                 Visibly, and Continuously.”
