134 Module 17: Off-the-Job Safety Loss Control Management (LCM)
• Organizations personnel can, in turn, provide leadership and support for community activities. Or
instance, employees can help form local safety councils, assist schools and churches by making
safety inspections upon request, or act as volunteer members of local fire departments;
• Several small companies in a community may consider the possibility of pooling their resources
and talents in a joint off-the-job safety program, as is sometimes done with disaster and rescue
programs;
• Advance publicity assures employee support by communicating objectives, plans, and activities.
An informal letter from top management sent to each employee’s home personalizes the
organization’s concern for the safety of not, only the employee himself but his family as well;
• The initial meeting for employees can followed by other meetings to which the members of his
family are also invited. Picnics, and other outings, featuring various types of entertainment and
safety exhibits are held by many organizations as a means of reaching the families;
• An organization’s newsletter,
magazine, or paper can carry the
word to employees. Company
bulletin boards can reinforce these
messages; and
• The community at large can be
kept informed of plans and
progress through spot
announcements and stories on
home, traffic, and recreation safety
carried by the local radio and TV
stations and the local newspapers.
