Module 19: Proper Job Analysis and Procedure
The Unified or Total Job Concept
• Standard Job Procedure - a tool for teaching the most systematic way to do a critical job
consistently with maximum efficiency.
• Proper Job Analysis - a tool to provide assurance that all-important aspects of job have been
considered and evaluated.
• Job - refers to an individual task or activity that a man does within his occupation, rather than to
the occupation itself (such as clerk, electrician, etc.).
The Basis for Need – Two Major Assumptions
1. All aspects of the total job (such as safety, quality,
and production) are so interrelated and
interdependent that it is impossible to separate
them without endangering the efficiency of any one
or all these important area.
2. Optimum job performance requires the most
efficient use of people, equipment, material and
environment. These subsystem are also
interrelated that they cannot be considered
separately without the risk of degrading job
performance.
Framework of a Proper Job Analysis
6 STEPS:
Determine the critical job to be analysed.
Break down into orderly sequence of steps.
Determine potential for downgrading incident.
Make “efficiency check” of each job step.
Develop recommended controls.
Write the Standard Job Procedure.
